Youths of Egypt Become One with Peace

DEC 2017

Seven Egyptian Youth Organizations Discuss the Role of Youth in Achieving World Peace

On November 7th, 2017, the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and Horus Foundation (hereinafter referred to as Horus) hosted the 4th “We Are One Workshop” at Sohag in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop, held with 50 members from seven youth NGOs, provided the platform for participants to discuss the role of youths in achieving world peace.

The IPYG and Horus have been working together to implement an international legal instrument based on the 10 articles and 38 clauses of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) to make the world a conflict-free place. At the workshop, the president of Horus, Mr. Tharwat, explained what he felt when he attended the 3rd Annual Commemoration of the World Alliance of Religions’ Peace Summit (WARP) hosted this year and the IPYG’s efforts in building peace. Following his speech, there was a discussion reminding youths that they have a crucial role to play in realizing peace at a time when the world is suffering from terrorist attacks stemming from extremism. There was also a signing ceremony for attendees to show their support for the DPCW.

Mr. Tharwat said in an interview that, “Many youths were able to realize the importance of their role in building peace. Some of the youths that participated in today’s event said they want to have peace activities in their schools, organizations, and regional communities.” He also added by saying that, ”I am thankful and glad that I can be a part of peace activities in Egypt and I will continue to communicate with youths for peace.”

The 1st “We Are One Workshop” was held in July 2016 with 40 youth participants, and the latest event was the fourth. The effort for peace will not stop here, as there will be a 5th workshop which will be held early next year.
